Cosplay Contest

The crown jewel of all FanCon events is our amazing cosplay contest!

Walk the main stage and show off your cosplay creativity for all to enjoy. Regardless of your experience level, if you want to sign up to be involved in our cosplay contest, there is a division for you, and it is free to join.

​DIVISIONS

Depending on experience and level of entries, contestants will select placement into the appropriate division.

  • Novice: New cosplayers and those without a cosplay contest award.

  • Journeyman: Cosplayers who have some experience and may have won previous awards.

  • Masters: Experienced cosplayers who have the confidence to participate against the best of the best.

Costumes will be judged by a select group of professional cosplayers based on criteria including accuracy, polish, difficulty, build percentage and impact.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4

10:30 – 11:00: Opening Ceremonies & Guest Welcome (Premier, Elite, Inner Circle passes only) Metro-Con opens in style with an exclusive welcome for our top-tier passholders. All celebrity guests are introduced, weekend highlights are revealed, and the energy officially launches for an unforgettable convention experience.

11:00 – 12:00: Blackwater D&D: DM Roulette The chaos begins! Blackwater’s dungeon masters switch every ten minutes, forcing the story to twist, turn, and break in hilarious, unexpected directions. With rotating storytellers, anything can happen, and it usually does!

12:00 – 12:45 : Faith, Prophecy, and the Mystery of the Cylons Visions, prophecy, and destiny shaped the journey of both humanity and the Cylons. Were these signs proof of a greater plan, or the desperate hopes of a fleet searching for meaning? This panel reunites the cast members who carried BSG’s most spiritual and mysterious arcs. Featured Guests: Callum Keith Rennie (Leoben Conoy) - The enigmatic Cylon whose visions and obsession with Kara Thrace embodied prophecy, fate, and unsettling belief. James Callis (Dr. Gaius Baltar) - From scientist to unlikely prophet, Baltar’s journey wrestled with questions of faith, ego, and redemption. Rekha Sharma (Tory Foster) - A political insider who embraced Cylon destiny with zeal, blurring the line between power and belief. Grace Park (Sharon “Boomer” / “Athena” Valerii) - Split between Cylon heritage and human love, her dual roles captured the struggle between identity, loyalty, and survival.

1:00 – 1:45 : Voices of the North: Truth & Lens Indigenous storytelling keynote moderated by Norm Coyne, with Keilani Rose, Blaire Lamora, and Tahmoh Peniket.

2:00 – 2:45: The Walking Dead Reunion Michael Cudlitz (Abraham Ford) and Ross Marquand (Aaron) revisit their time on The Walking Dead. Hear behind-the-scenes stories, memories from set, and how the series became one of television’s most groundbreaking survival sagas.

3:00 – 5:00: BSG D&D Live Special Blackwater D&D leads a one-of-a-kind roleplaying adventure with special guests Tahmoh Penikett and Rekha Sharma, reprising their Battlestar Galactica characters for a spacefaring one-shot. Expect laughter, chaos, and plenty of dice-driven drama. “The Backup Plan”: Six seemingly unconnected humans aware upon a new class of Cylon ship that's never been seen before. What mysteries might be answered as they seek a way out, and who can they trust when any one of them could secretly be an enemy? Join the BlackwaterDnD crew as we run this amazing Battlestar Galactica tabletop one shot using the Scum & Villainy system!

5:00 – 5:45 : Daybreak Revisited: The Battlestar Galactica Finale Deep Dive “Daybreak” remains one of the most emotional and debated finales in modern science fiction. This panel brings together cast and crew to reflect on the choices, sacrifices, and lasting questions that defined the end of Battlestar Galactica. Featured Guests Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama) - Shaped the finale both on screen and off, guiding Adama through his farewell to Roslin and his final retreat into solitude. James Callis (Dr. Gaius Baltar) - Brought Baltar’s long-awaited redemption to life, from unlikely prophet to humble farmer. Michael Trucco (Samuel Anders) - Transformed into Galactica’s hybrid, Anders’ ultimate sacrifice carried the ship on her last journey. Aaron Douglas (Chief Galen Tyrol) - Delivered one of the finale’s most heartbreaking moments with Tyrol’s act of vengeance and self-exile. Mark Verheiden (Writer/Producer) - Offers an inside look at how the writers’ room shaped the finale’s most controversial and poignant choices.

6:15 – 7:00: Battlestar Galactica Fundraiser Auction Props, memorabilia, and rare collectibles from BSG hit the auction floor in support of the Michael Hogan Recovery Fund. Own the legacy. Support the mission. Keep the fleet flying.

SUNDAY, oCTOBER 5

10:30 – 11:00: Morning Exclusive (Premier, Elite, Inner Circle passes only) Start the final day of Metro-Con with a surprise-filled insider session for Premier, Elite, and Inner Circle passholders.

11:00 – 11:45: Lochlyn Munro: Comedy, Chaos & Cult Classics From comedy cult classics to chilling dramas, Lochlyn Munro has done it all. With over 200 film and television credits, he’s one of Canada’s most recognizable and versatile actors. Fans know him as Hal Cooper from Riverdale, Jack Sheridan in Charmed, Officer Richard in Scary Movie, and unforgettable roles in White Chicks, Dead Man on Campus, Northwood, and more. In this exclusive spotlight, Lochlyn reflects on his decades-spanning career, shares behind-the-scenes stories from sets across Hollywood and Canada, and answers fan questions about the roles that made him a household name. Whether you first saw him in a cult comedy, a supernatural drama, or a teen hit, this is your chance to celebrate one of Canada’s most beloved and versatile actors.

12:00 – 12:45: The Final Five: Identity, Destiny, and Shocking Reveals The revelation of the Final Five Cylons changed everything. This panel reunites the cast who brought those shocking twists to life. Featured Guests Michael Hogan (Colonel Saul Tigh) - The hardened XO whose secret identity redefined his loyalty, sacrifice, and legacy. Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) - From controversial spouse to brilliant Cylon scientist, Ellen’s return reframed her as a key to her people’s survival. 1:00 – 1:45: Love, Loyalty, and Sacrifice: The Heart of Galactica Battlestar Galactica wasn’t just about survival, it was about the bonds that defined humanity’s last survivors. Featured Guests Grace Park (Sharon “Boomer” / “Athena” Valerii) - Torn between her Cylon nature and her human family, she embodied both betrayal and redemption in her fight for love and identity. Tahmoh Penikett (Karl “Helo” Agathon) - The fleet’s moral compass, whose loyalty, compassion, and devotion to Athena became a symbol of integrity and sacrifice. Kandyse McClure (Anastasia “Dee” Dualla) - Steadfast and devoted, Dee’s strength on the bridge and her tragic end highlighted the emotional cost of survival. 2:00 – 2:45: Proudly Canadian Women in Film & Television From sci-fi epics to prestige dramas, Canadian actresses have helped shape some of the most iconic stories on screen. This panel celebrates the talent, resilience, and impact of women in Canada’s film and television industry — both at home and abroad. The conversation explores representation, challenges in the industry, and the unique contributions Canadian performers bring to genre and drama alike. Featured Guests Chelah Horsdal – Known for acclaimed roles in The Man in the High Castle, The Boys, and Firefly, Horsdal reflects on her career and the evolving opportunities for Canadian talent on the global stage. Keegan Connor Tracy – With credits including Once Upon a Time, Bates Motel, Final Destination 2, and Battlestar Galactica, Tracy shares insight into working across Canadian and international productions in both genre and drama. Keilani Rose – Actress, dancer, and activist, Rose highlights the importance of Indigenous voices and female representation in Canadian screen storytelling. 3:00 – 3:45: Ross Marquand: The Many Voices From Marvel’s Red Skull to The Walking Dead’s Aaron to countless animated and voice roles, Ross Marquand showcases his range and shares stories from across his career.

4:00 – 5:00: Metro-Con Cosplay Contest The crown jewel of every FanCon. Cosplayers step into the spotlight to showcase their craft, passion, and fandom.

5:00: Metro-Con Farewell Closing words, guest thank-yous, and one final send-off. Celebrate the weekend and keep the party alive at the official after-party.

1:30 – 2:15 PM: Filming Locations of BSG & Caprica Valorie Hoye (13th Colony Fan Club) guides fans through Vancouver-area filming sites with slides, maps, and comparisons.

2:30 – 3:15 PM: Cosplay meets VFX: Level up your Photos with 3D Magic with Mary Agoncillo

3:30 – 4:15 PM: Indigenous Shorts Showcase & Talkback Screening of Indigenous short films followed by creator Q&A.

Media accreditation and services for the Island FanCon event are provided to media on assignment to cover Island FanCon. Due to the demand for tickets, the number of Press Passes available is limited, and we cannot approve every request.

 

For best results, please submit a request for media accreditation no later than one month before the event and provide as much information as possible. Please note that guidelines for on-site media will be shared with those selected for accreditation.
